This match-fixing stuff is bunk. Let’s all just move on, okay?

this is how you do it: radek stepanek

October 12, 2007

Now, wouldn’t this have been a much more tasteful Davis Cup outfit for Czech Radek Stepanek instead of that flag? He should keep this shirt handy for next year’s World Group competition.

Meanwhile, Radek lost to Janko Tipsarevic in the quarterfinals of this week’s Kremlin Cup. The score: 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.

More Janko pics later.

fashion cameo: kirilenko’s latest adidas dress

October 12, 2007

I really wish the gods did more to help the career of Russian Maria Kirilenko, if only so her clothes would get more face time.

Maria’s latest adidas by Stella McCartney outfit combined the Fall ’07 tennis dress (in white) with the bra top and hot pants (in Electricity aka lime — take that, Tatiana Golovin). Unfortunately, she crashed out in the first round of the Kremlin Cup with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-6 loss to Agnieszka Radwanska.

Flashback: As you may remember, she wore the brown version of this dress earlier this fall. Brown or white — which looks better on Maria? Tell us!

Buy: The dress is $120; the bra top, $65; and the hot pants, $60 — all at adidas.com.

courtside: grosjean at kremlin cup

October 12, 2007

A quick look at Sebastien Grosjean‘s racquet bag from Lacoste during his 2-6, 2-6 performance in the first round of the 2007 Kremlin Cup.

This loss to fellow frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu is on par with Sebastien’s year thus far; he’s title-less — with only 13 wins out of 29 matches played.

Buy: So don’t ape his game, but you can ape his style. Sporty bags with the brand’s signature crocodile logo are available at at Lacoste.com (look under Leather Goods/Men/Sport) or through amazon.

federer to fish: a trickle-down theory

October 12, 2007

Nick: in your update about the current happenings in the life of Mardy Fish, you can add that he’s adopted the style of the great Darth Federer (but with adidas gear instead of R-Fed’s Nike).

This photo was taken during his second-round match against Ivan Ljubicic at the BA-CA Tennis Trophy in Vienna. The Croat won the match 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (4).

And speaking of “where are they now?”, Ljubicic should be on that list. He’s now been replaced by Nikolay Davydenko as the guy keeping the hotshots company in the top 5 and he’s slipped into a No. 13 ranking. On the bright side, we love the kit provided by his new clothing sponsor, Li-Ning. Goodbye, Diadora.
