mo’ mono: radek stepanek

October 16, 2009

The funky clothing of Radek Stepanek goes to the next level with this monogrammed polo from Alea with a slight graphic print on the front — tame compared to the Czech’s usually outlandish outfits. (Read up on other players in the monogram club.)

Shanghai’ed: Stepanek looked on track to win the head-to-head against Nikolay Davydenko before this quarterfinal match at this week’s Shanghai ATP Masters (they were 4-4 previously). He frustrated Kolya by attacking second serves and coming in constantly as part of his serve-and-volley game. Alas, the Russian eventually prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. “He destroyed me in the second set,” Davydenko said during the post-match presser. “In the third set, I find my game and play better and better, good concentration, and he start again to do mistakes from the baseline.”

Browse: See the other Alea goods on their website. omg that czech flag bathrobe is craaaaaaazy.

A few more: A few more shots of Radek and his clothes after the cut…

prettier in pink: rafa shanghai shirts?

October 16, 2009

Does anyone out there have info about these pink “Nadal” shirts (with swoosh, of course) that all the fans are sporting over at the Shanghai ATP Masters tournament?

Draw: Rafa Nadal will face Feliciano Lopez in the semis. His opponent, Ivan Ljubicic, retired with a back injury. Feli beat Soderling in straight sets. In the other half, Kolya Davydenko needed three sets to win over Radek Stepanek. So did Nole Djokovic in his victory over Gilles Simon.

wickmayer goes from shorts to skirt

October 16, 2009

Erke‘s doing double duty by going at it with Sergio Tacchini for airtime at the Shanghai ATP Masters tournament (the ballkids are in Erke; the lines officials, in Tacchini) and outfitting its postergirl Yanina Wickmayer halfway across the globe. They’ve switched her from cuffed shorts and a cap-sleeve polo to a sleeveless tank with a pleated, drawstring skirt.

The Belgian is through to the semis at the Generali Ladies Linz and will face Flavia Pennetta for a chance to win the ~$95,000 top prize. See the draw here.

FYI: Wickmayer’s already won a title this year (Estoril).

almost, but not quite: caroline wozniacki

October 16, 2009

We’re trying to figure out what’s off with Caro‘s look. Is it the medusa hair? The black leather watch against the pale grey/purple adidas by Stella McCartney dress?

Bee tee dubs: (We’ve been drooling over watches lately, can you tell?) That honkin’ CW8 watch from Rosendahl was made with Caro in mind. The number 8 — her lucky number — is a big part of the watch dial’s design. Why that number? Think Beijing: “A dream of mine is also bound up in the 8th month of 2008 (and no doubt for lots of other sports people, too – need I say more?). Dreams and goals are important to me. I wish you every success and happiness with yours,” she says in a company brochure.

Draw: At this week’s HP Japan Women’s Open, Caroline defeated fellow Woz Aleksandra Wozniak 6-2, 6-7 (1), 6-2 (this, after she let Wozniak through to the quarters of the Toray Pan Pacific Open because of a viral illness). She faces Sam Stosur in the semis. Draw here.
