oh, shahar!

April 1, 2011

It’s been a while since we’ve put up a fashion mishit — nay, a fashion shank — on TSF, but this one caught our eye. Too bad, because we were in the middle of writing a post praising Shahar Peer‘s current purple Reebok dress, and this had to pop up: a pic from last month’s BNP Paribas Open Players’ Party. That sock tan! And are those loafers?

TSF Archives: Previous mishits on and off the court — including Jankovic‘s pink bow, Spadea‘s leopard print backpack, and a lot of Mattek.

On the tour: Shahar’s done decently this year, ranked just outside the top 10 and with two quarterfinal appearances (Dubai, Indian Wells). She lost in her opening round match at this week’s Sony Ericsson Open to Anabel Medina Garrigues. As you may know, AMG gave Sharapova trouble in Masha’s opening match at Indian Wells.

fashion focus: novak and tacchini get serious

April 1, 2011

Serious business: Gone are the wings and the dragon motifs that started Novak Djokovic‘s partnership with Sergio Tacchini. They’re instead relying on a combination of piping, color blocking, and textures (with matching shoes) to create a more sophisticated look for the current world No. 2.

Buy: Tacchini Santese Polo, white/blue/red or black/orange/gray, $80. Shoes: adidas Barricade 6.0, $125; customizable version, $150, miadidas.com.

Miami: After defeating Mardy Fish 6-3, 6-1 in the semis of the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Nole awaits the winner of the match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. In head-to-head stats, Nole’s up 3-0 against Roger (with wins in Melbourne, Dubai, and Indian Wells) and 1-0 against Rafa (Indian Wells). As we’d said before, we’re banking on Djokovic remaining undefeated at least through the rest of this tournament. (SEO Draw: See how the event has unfolded.)

it’s nice to grow old with someone…

April 1, 2011

March 31, 2011: Happy fourth birthday to the Women’s Tennis Blog. It’s crazy to think it’s been that long since Marija wrote her first post. Check out the WTB anniversary raffles — including a giveaway of adidas and Nike gear — on the blog.

It’s always a pleasure reading your work, Marija. And it’s good to know that a tennis blog that started at the same time ours did is still alive and kicking. Here’s to another four years of writing!

xoxoxo,

ferrer’s manic miami moment

April 1, 2011

Don’t cry for me: The pronunciation of David Ferrer‘s name is being butchered by newscasters across America as news stations run footage of him belting a ball up into the crowd on Wednesday out of frustration that a baby was crying. Well, that wasn’t the only reason, but Ferrer’s dismal, straight-set loss to Mardy Fish was just that: frustrating.
