(ot) what’s in your fall 2011 lookbook?

April 6, 2011

We here at TSF West are keeping our fingers crossed for brisk Southern California fall; otherwise it’ll be hard to pull of these layered Balmain looks in our version of cold (i.e., 50 degrees). And yes, we know: those pants have super-dropped crotches. Bring it. (Browse: Balmain Men’s Fall 2011)

Le sigh: Balmain’s creative director, Christophe Decarnin is leaving the brand after five years at the helm. A successor has yet to be appointed.

caro does the charleston

April 6, 2011

Almost reminiscent of Maria Sharapova’s blue/orange Nike dress from Miami four years ago, top seed Caro Wozniacki debuted another combo from her adidas by Stella McCartney trunk of wonders. For the Family Circle Cup, being contested this week in Charleston, S.C., she paired an “infrared” (orange) sleeveless tank with a pleated skirt. Note the same orange tone on her shoes. (The Stella line shoe is Eileithyia, but Caro’s wearing Barricades, yes?) Ruching on the tank aside, we’re not really all that impressed with this combo. Can’t wait to see which dresses will end up at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. (What do you think of Caro’s Charleston outfit? Love it? Hate it? Don’t care? Tell us!)

Draw: Wozniacki made quick work of American Irina Falconi, beating her 6-1, 6-1. (Draw: Family Circle Cup)

Buy: adidas by Stella McCartney Tennis Skirt (img), white or blueprint, $85; Perf Tank, $75; adilibria Barricade shoes customizable at miadidas.com.

on clay, adidas purple turns to pink

April 6, 2011

adidas ladies, including Ana Ivanovic, will keep the same adiZero dress (with the cutout in the back) but switching to that radiant watermelon/pink shade that we’ve already seen on the guys.

Buy: adiZero dress, $65, pink/orange/green.

the all-england hair club for men

April 6, 2011
By Troy Venechanos

A few months ago, Andy Roddick hit what he called one of the best shots of his career. It was a diving save, one in which Roddick smacked a forehand down the line on match point to win a third set tie-breaker against up-and-comer Milos Raonic and capture the Memphis title. And while the web went abuzz with the video of the shot, many viewers weren’t actually watching Roddick’s shot. Instead, they were paying attention to a cap-less Andy, his hat having fallen off in his exertion of effort. And what was there to see? Not much, actually. An almost-bald Andy.Hair loss and tennis go hand and hand. Male pros often play into their mid or late 30s, meaning as they start to lose their hair, it’s left for all the public to see. Andre Agassi freaked out about it so much that he donned a fake hairpiece that had the world fooled. Pete Sampras has been so nonchalant about his after-career hair thinning that he doesn’t even seem to notice.

But we notice – we always notice. TSF has collected the hairdos (and don’ts) from around the tour in what we’re calling “The All-England Club for Men’s Hair Loss,” where styles differ from member to member, but everyone has one thing in common: they’re going – or already are – bald.

spotted in the city: cover me (correctly)

April 6, 2011

Two recent run-ins in the city: On Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Kiehl’s is keeping its new store under classy wraps with a branded display from ground up. Though we’re not sure when the store is supposed to open, we love the way they’ve chosen to make the unsightly part of the re-build process somewhat … sexy. Meanwhile, in SoHo, H&M is doing much the same with a three-story high coverage of its construction on Broadway. Kudos, folks.

bonus! nole and an airplane

April 6, 2011

Bonus: Remember that vid that daredevil Novak Djokovic shot a couple of weeks ago for HEAD? Well we grabbed a couple more screen shots from the racquet co because they’re just that good. Can Nole wear that hat on the court sometime? We dig the chin strap.

practice makes perfect: “i’d hit that”

April 6, 2011

Now that she’s with Wilson, Melanie Oudin needn’t worry about pumping herself up with mantras about courage and self-confidence. A little double entendre never hurt anyone, right? She — along with other players in the Wilson stable including Anne Keothavong (pictured) — has been wearing practice tees printed with the phrase “I’d Hit That.” Available to the masses in time for the U.S. Open later this year.
