lacoste widens your beach footprint

April 27, 2011

The Santa Anas have been howling through SoCal the last few nights (perhaps the gods are mad that Manila Luzon didn’t win “Drag Race”, or that James is still in American Idol?) and the weird weather has us thinking ahead to the gorgeous days of summer, when we expect to do a lot of BBQ-ing, Hollywood Bowl-ing (Dolly Parton!), and oceanside hanging. So beach excursions call for an update of our accessories, and we’ve been eyeing this square Lacoste towel to help us stake our claim on the sand.

Others: If you prefer things standard and rectangular (what a square you are!), see the rest of the Spring ’11 Lacoste beach towels after the cut…

tattoo watch: adrian ungur

April 27, 2011

Romania’s Adrian Ungur has made it through to the second round of this week’s Serbia Open by beating Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the first round (and qualifying for a spot in the main draw). Unfortunately, that’s probably where it’ll end; he faces Novak Djokovic in the hometown hero’s opening match tonight.

Tattoo watch: Ungur told TSF (by way of the Serbia Open media folks) that the hip tat you see peeking out of his shorts means “respect” and “honor” in Chinese. Open season: And he also revealed that he has four more: a star on his hand; the initials of his wife; a bracelet on his upper right arm; and an old Georgian saying on his arm. Let the photo hunting begin!

grigor dimitrov is a-okay in munich

April 27, 2011

So there are times when we are okay showing you a non-shirtless Grigor Dimitrov, like this week, when he upset fourth seed Marcos Baghdatis in the second round of the BMW Open — 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2. (FYI, highest seed left in the Munich draw is now No. 3 Cilic.)

Nike: All those ATPers not named Roger or Rafa are wearing either the honeycombed Movement pieces or the striped collection (“Challenger”), worn by Grigor.

Buy: Nike Men’s Challenger Speed Stripe Crew; in white/grey, white/blue, and blue colorways; $50; tennisexpress.com.

philipp petzschner plays munich

April 27, 2011

Philipp Petzschner attended the players’ party thrown by this week’s BMW Open in Munich — and we’re glad he knows how to dress up! (Marat: take notes, ok?) Marcos Baghdatis also showed up with goofy camo Zorro mask. Browse: BMW Open party pics.

Draw: Petzschner, the other half of our favorite German doubles duo — honestly, we wonder what the slash fic must be like for these two — is still in the running for Germany’s next hot player along with Florian Mayer, qualifier Julian Reister, Philipp Kohlschreiber, lucky loser Denis Gremelmayr, and wildcard Dustin Brown. Petzsch upset top seed Mikhail Youzhny and faces Potito Starace in the quarters. (Draw: BMW Open)

More: See shots of Petzschner in his on-court Erke kit after the cut…
