with hayden, lacoste steps up with a “challenge”

June 25, 2009

Lacoste looks back at its tennis roots in its latest men’s scent, the Lacoste Challenge. The unique bottle features a tennis racquet design, referring to Rene Lacoste‘s long-ago innovation of adhering plaster to his sticks to improve their grips.

Actor and tennis fan Hayden Christensen will represent the scent in TV and print ads.

The top notes are tangerine and lemon with a burst of lavender (one of the classic ingredients in masculine perfumery). Middle accord is driven by ginger and other spices. Base note combines rosewood, teak, and ebony.

Buy: Available at Macy’s and other department stores later this summer. Eau de Toilette Spray, 1.6 fl. oz. ($40), 2.5 fl. oz. ($50), 3.0 fl. oz. ($60), After Shave Lotion, 2.5 fl. oz. ($42), After Shave Balm, 2.5 fl. oz. ($37), Shower Gel, 5.0 fl. oz. ($27), Deodorant Stick, 2.4 oz. ($21).

More: One more pic of Hayden after the cut…

March 5, 2009

Proving to the world that the he can rock a dress shirt (the blazer is still a work in progress…), Rafa Nadal posed for the Lanvin cologne he’s hawking, L’homme Sport. The scent’ll have hints of lemon, bergamot, sage, and lavender.

It’ll be available in April starting at €65 for a 100ml bottle.

short balls: endorsement edition

October 2, 2008

Don’t forget to print out your bingo cards for tonight! She’s a piece of work, isn’t she?

Now, for some endorsement short balls…

Consider us tickled: In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), Canon spokesperson Maria Sharapova announced that the company would donate $150,000 to the American Cancer Society. They’re also releasing a special “pink bundle” — a PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH, a photo printer, a ribbon charm and a mammogram reminder magnet — available for $279.99 here.

Bottle it up: Fans of Rafael Nadal will be happy to know that he’s signed a deal with Inter Parfums to develop a fragrance line called Lanvin L’Homme Sport. He’s already wearing Lanvin anyway, so he might as well get paid for doing so. (tennis.com via DTL)

He’s top ramen: According to Tennis Week, Kei Nishikori has signed an endorsement deal with Cup noodles — the instant meal that got TSF through much of its childhood. (TW)

things you didn’t know about Rafa

June 20, 2008

In his last Q&A for the Times, we find out that Rafa Nadal wears a fragrance by Lanvin (which one, I wonder?) and he is fascinated by fish and aquariums. His hometown of Mallorca has a decent one.

Speaking of scents, here are my favorites:

Gucci Nobile (1988). Discontinued. It’s now at $150 an ounce or some absurd amount. But the combo of bergamot, lemon, lavender, rosemary, tarragon, mace, etc — it really does it for me.

Chanel Chance (2002). My sister gave me a bottle because it wasn’t quite working with her skin. Give it a chance (hyuk) — it’s more man-friendly than you’d expect. I haven’t tried the more summery Eau Fraiche version.

Chanel Egoiste (1990).

Vera Wang for Men (2004). My friend Jym wears this one (and I really like how it smells). In a perfect world I’d be able to use it, too. Sadly, the scent disappears 10 minutes after I spray it on myself.

What fragrance do you wear?

bid on nole’s stank! + other player’s smells

January 31, 2008

I smell another enterprising fan: eBay is teeming with scentilicious auctions this week, including a sweat-soaked shirt worn by Nole during his win over Tsonga in the Aussie Open finals.

The shirt is going for a starting bid of A$4,990. Clearly, the ridiculously price is leaving a bad smell — as of this posting, none of the sweat fetishists have come out to sniff (there are zero bids). Still, I wish it better success than the half-eaten banana from the Davis Cup finals. (And really, if I had $5k to spend, I’d rather buy Arkel bags in every color.)

If you prefer your musk from an American, Andy Roddick‘s scent is available in a more conventional medium; a bottle of his cologne is also up for auction, with bidding starting at a more affordable $2.99.

Missed it? I didn’t even know he had a cologne. Apparently, it was launched in time for the 2006 U.S. Open. Clearly it didn’t take off. Has anyone seen it for sale recently (not on eBay)?

More scents: You can also have your smell inspired by Gabriela Sabatini (she has plenty), Roger Federer (here), or the love story of Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi.
