bid on nole’s stank! + other player’s smells

I smell another enterprising fan: eBay is teeming with scentilicious auctions this week, including a sweat-soaked shirt worn by Nole during his win over Tsonga in the Aussie Open finals.

The shirt is going for a starting bid of A$4,990. Clearly, the ridiculously price is leaving a bad smell — as of this posting, none of the sweat fetishists have come out to sniff (there are zero bids). Still, I wish it better success than the half-eaten banana from the Davis Cup finals. (And really, if I had $5k to spend, I’d rather buy Arkel bags in every color.)

If you prefer your musk from an American, Andy Roddick‘s scent is available in a more conventional medium; a bottle of his cologne is also up for auction, with bidding starting at a more affordable $2.99.

Missed it? I didn’t even know he had a cologne. Apparently, it was launched in time for the 2006 U.S. Open. Clearly it didn’t take off. Has anyone seen it for sale recently (not on eBay)?

More scents: You can also have your smell inspired by Gabriela Sabatini (she has plenty), Roger Federer (here), or the love story of Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi.

bid for roddick’s banana!

December 4, 2007

I can’t say I knew this was going to happen. In the wake of Team USA’s win over Russia in the Davis Cup finals, an enterprising ballboy snagged a half-eaten banana from the trash and put it up on eBay.

Anything that has touched Andy Roddick‘s lips is worth at least $.99, I say. (Plus $8 in shipping.)

“The banana was taken from the players garbage it was eaten by Andy Roddick! yes the HOT ANDY RODDICK for all you female fans out there! I put it in with a picture of Davis Cup Ball Boy gear as proof of me being a ball boy! The Item is Sold AS IS, and returns are NOT ALLOWED. Please don’t bid if you are NOT a serious buyer and intend to not pay for the item.”

And in case the winner had plans to display this prized piece of Americana on their mantle, a clarification from the seller:

“NOTE- I MAKE NO PROMISES OR GUARANTEES ON THE CONDITION OF THE BANANA AFTER SHIPPING AND YOU MUST BID AT YOUR OWN RISK. [...] Also the banana is a souvenir NOT TO EAT! IT IS A SOUVENIR”

(Thanks for the tip, Randy!)

short balls: fashion, fashion, fashion

For the literati: Instead of attempting to get through Infinite Jest one more time (and failing yet again), show David Foster Wallace some love by sporting this Enfield Tennis Academy shirt. (via kottke.org)

simpson of australia

Flashback: Those into vintage should check out this eBay auction for a never-worn Simpson of Australia polo designed specifically for the 1972 Davis Cup. (logo source)

(OT) Fugging Fashion Week: I adore the Fug Girls, but I love them even more when they’re fashion week-blogging for New York Magazine.

(OT) JC Report: The latest issue discusses, among others, the proliferation of Asian designers on New York’s runways and the latest luxury goods lines to hit the market.

(OT) Hot in Details, hotter in V: Remind me to send Brad Pitt the medical bill for my heart attack. I’m sure to get one after these pubs drop their latest issues.

short balls: will & grace, quddus at kids’ day, federer’s birth chart, lacoste…

Will and Grace, part 2: A W&G rerun from the other night had yet another obscure reference, this time to Evonne Goolagong. Yes, yes — it’s not obscure to us gays, but you have to admit it’s obscure to the general public…

I’m no spring chicken: Which means I don’t watch TRL, which means I didn’t even know about Quddus Philippe until today. Cutie! Quddus is hosting Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the Open.

We have a lot of work to do: Did anyone else see Venus on GMA yesterday? Kate Snow, one of the show’s anchors, committed a tennis faux pas (and one of my pet peeves): she asked Venus to “volley” when she meant “rally” — grrrrr…. And, when talking about Venus’ ranking, Snow said it’s “really up there”. Uhm, an intern could have done some research to make this less vague.

A Lacoste mishit: Hardcore Lacoste (and kitsch) fans must check out this eBay auction. The belt is cute, but that’s about it.

Reading Roger: The World No. 1’s birth chart.

Federer taps another teen: For the ATP Masters Series tourney in Cincy, junior Matt Allare was chosen by Roger to be his hitting partner. Jesse Levine got the same honor a few months back when Federer flew him to Dubai. (ZooTennis)

Nole’s resume: The Age does this cute, quick feature on the clowny ways of Novak Djokovic.
