“wimbledon” barstool in may 2011 details

April 30, 2011

The May 2011 issue of Details includes a spread on furniture design inspired by sports: curling stone as sidetable; basketball floorboards turned into a cabinet; baseball bats become a chair; a pommel-horse bench, etc. Tennis’ contribution is this “Wimbledon” barstool by Broberg and Ridderstrale for Nola. (Flashback: French Open furniture.)

french open: swag with swagger

This should be required for all the majors.

Roland Garros stringer Laurent Lucas tapped French design outfit 5.5 Designers to reinterpret the clay major in “3 Sets”. And what they came up with is now up for sale online: the Break Stool, a wooden racquet transformed into a side table (~$450); the Ace carafe (~$80) and four glasses (~$100), inspired by empty tennis ball cans; and the 15/30 chalkboard (~$125), modeled after the tournament bracket.

What do you think of these pieces? Tell us!

More: Buy the goods here and read the release, in French, on the 5.5 website.

The Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam is now home to Dutch designer Tejo Remy‘s tennis ball benches.

Remy, along with design partner Renee Veenhuizen, “use reclaimed and everyday materials in new forms and reinvented objects” like this bench above and these rag chairs.

the agassi/graf dream team conquers furniture

May 10, 2007

Everyone’s getting in on designer furniture, including Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf.

The Agassi Graf Collection by Kreiss is “a unique collection that captures this dynamic couple’s indomitable energy and spirit while remaining true to the classic Kreiss style.” God, press releases blow sometimes.

Still, some of it’s pretty cute. My top picks (from left to right): the Leather Lounge ($3,302.50), the Vicenza Stone Coffee Table ($3,450), and the Mercury Lounge ($1,825).
