shirtless: juan monaco

May 2, 2011

Juan Monaco‘s playing at this week’s combined Mutua Madrid Open, winning his first-rounder against Andrey Golubev 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. He’ll need to step it up if he wants to upset ninth seed Gael Monfils in the next round. They both share the same quarter as Andy Murray (though we think it’s Tomas Berdych‘s to lose). Browse: Mutua Madrid Open Draws.

Taking pic(o)s: Some shots we took of Monaco earlier this year at Indian Wells.

shirtless: tim smyczek

April 26, 2011

Anyone else ready to make this Donald Young vs. P-Mac story about Tim Smyczek instead? (Aside from Forty Deuce, we mean.) After all, Tim’s the guy who beat Young 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in that USTA six-man playoff in Boca West to nab a wildcard spot into Roland Garros this year. FYI: Smyczek’s never played the French. On the women’s side, top seed Irina Falconi beat third seed Julia Boserup 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3.

More news: Dunlop announced today that they’re making Tim a part of their roster (though he’s been playing with their racquets even before the signing). His apparel and shoes are via adidas.

Shirtless: Here’s Smyczek getting sun and practice at this year’s BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. On the other side of the net: Ryan Sweeting. Enjoy!

shirtless: grigor dimitrov

April 20, 2011

Slow day over here. Thank god, otherwise I’d never’ve gotten around to linking to these pics of Grigor Dimitrov from 2010 in Bangkok, where he went on a tear and ended up with back-to-back titles. (Photos: Enjoy!)

2011: Grigor’s won a Challenger (Cherbourg) and last month reached a career-high No. 70 in the ATP rankings. He entered this week’s Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell and immediately lost 4-6, 1-6 to Juan Monaco (after being up 4-1 in that first set). Draw: Here’s how the rest of the guys are doing. (The field includes Nadal, Soderling, Ferrer, Melzer, Monfils, and Almagro.)

shirtless: the rest of malibu novak

April 15, 2011

Nole‘s had more glamour shots pop up in the last few days, but we’re content with seeing these — the rest of the pap pics from his trip to Malibu right before the 2011 BNP Paribas Open.

how we survived in tursunov’s absence

March 31, 2011

TSF was heartbroken to find out that Dmitry Tursunov wasn’t going to play at Indian Wells and Miami this year. Tournaments just aren’t the same without his pastiness hanging out in the practice courts (exhibits A and B). So as we felt the withdrawal kick in during our first days in the desert, this man saved the day.

Ridic.

Anyway, Igor Andreev made it as far as the second round at this week’s Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, where he lost to John Isner 4-6, 7-5, 6-7 (2). But that’s okay, Igor: winning isn’t why we keep you on our radar.

The tennis: Roger and Rafa play their quarterfinal matches today (vs. Simon and Berdych, respectively). The winner in that top half of the draw will play the winner of the Fish/Djokovic semi. We expect Nole to take this whole thing. Who’s your pick for the winner? (Browse: SEO Draws)

And in case you’re interested in seeing Igor clothed, some pics of his current Sergio Tacchini kit below.

(shirtless) tattoo watch: alex bogomolov jr charges past andy

March 25, 2011

Raging Bull: American Alex Bogomolov, Jr. upset Andy Murray with a 6-1, 7-5 win over the Scot in a second-round match at the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. It didn’t help rusty Andy’s cause that he came in with a three-loss streak (starting with that Aussie Open final loss to Nole). Bogomolov, on the other hand, had a few matches under his belt by qualifying for the main draw and beating Victor Hanescu in the first round.

Brackets: Bogomolov will face the winner of Isner/Andreev. They are all in the same quarter as Djokovic. (SEO Draws)

Clothed: Nice colors on that graphic blue/black crew from Athletic DNA. Nope, nothing to do with Charlie Sheen. Buy: Eclipse T Men’s, $49.95.

sunday survey: would you rather?

March 13, 2011

It’s OK to have an excuse to bring these pictures up again, right? We always love “what-if” situations, so how about a fun, imaginative one today? What if you had the option of participating in any of the below. Which would you rather?

shirtless: andy and nole play some futbol

Remember this? We told you we’d be back with more. And below there’s Andy, with exceedingly ripped abs. Um… ok. One more of Nole after the cut, too.

that’s a wrap: re-hashing davis cup

March 9, 2011

By Benjamin Snyder

Good job, team America. Andy “The Closer” Roddick pulled through against Chile under the guidance of new Davis Cup captain Jim “The Rock” Courier. And a new American frat squad has been born.

The real story, however, lies in the following five moments that mattered most. Sorry, Judy Murray, this weekend’s high intensity was a far cry from your beef with a future tie being in “Eazzzztbourne.”

Step aside Gilles, you aren’t French Davis Cup’s winner this week — actually far from it. Instead, Jeremy Chardy came out on top (and without drama), winning the deciding fifth match against Austria’s Martin Fischer 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-3. Chardy can now say he not only helped France advance (although Tsonga, Monfils and Gasquet had to be hurt to give him the chance) but he also won in an airplane hangar: number three to be exact.

How about some Serbian success? Ilija Bozoljac, who tested Federer at Wimbledon last year, backed up his funky game — he plays two-handed on both wings — with a big win in a four-set doubles thriller against India with partner Nenad Zimonjic. Plus, he looked really good doing it.

Seriously, we can’t make this stuff up. (via ilija-bozoljac.net)

shirtless: novak on the beach

March 8, 2011

Taking a dip: Is Nole losing weight? Should we be worried?! It’s a little hard to conjure up feelings of concern when a shirtless Nole is in the picture, right? Here’s Novak in Malibu. We’re hoping for plenty of shirtless shots of the Serb from Indian Wells this week. (photos by TMZ via Towleroad)

rafa ripped, in armani jeans (+ undies)

January 22, 2011

Yes, lady and gents, we get it. This last week – as we’ve covered week one of the Aussie Open – we’ve lacked in one important (very, very important) arena: men. Sure, there was Milos Raonic, but all Milo has going for him is that Lacoste kit he’s sporting. Oh, and his six-match winning streak. But what’s winning if you can’t take your shirt off?!

Enter Rafael Nadal and Armani’s well-timed launch of their use of their latest athlete-turned-model. First there was Beckham and Ronaldo, but now we have Rafa. And aren’t we oh so happy? And there is an underwear shot, too. After the cut. More: Armani on TSF | Our shirtless vault

helloooo, rafa!

For the shirtless file: We present this pic of Rafa Nadal, apparently part of a spread which appeared in HELLO! magazine.

dear nole

October 6, 2010

Alright, Novak, we get it. Just because we gave Santiago Giraldo some air time doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about you, so you don’t need to try and win us back. We must admit it’s tough; now that we’ve been relegated to third fiddle (after your gf Jelena and now that shadow over Ashe), sometimes we have to get our fix somewhere else.

xoxoxo,

TSF

p.s. It’s smoggy over there in Beijing, so we hope the extra rest you get from that Fish walkover (hope your ankle recovers well, Mardy!) gives you a leg up in your quarterfinal against Gilles Simon. Pro: Simon had a tough three-setter against Berrer. Con: he’s probably more tennis-focused now that he’s had a chance to meet his newborn son. (Brackets: China Open Draws)

santiago’s yummy tummy

October 5, 2010

That’s shotmaking face is pretty intense, but I’m not looking up there anyway.

Santiago Giraldo lost to top seed Rafa Nadal in the first round of the Rakuten Japan Open in Tokyo. Up next for Nadal is Milos Raonic.

Draw: See how the rest of the seeds are doing — including Andy Roddick, Tsonga, Melzer, Monfils — by browsing the bracket.

shirtless: fernando verdasco

September 29, 2010

Yep, the CK underwear billboard was clearly the anomaly, because every other picture of a shirtless Verdasco, including this one — taken at the PTT Thailand Open — isn’t doing anything for me. If it’s his hair that’s front and center, that’s another story.

shirtless + tattoo watch: horacio zeballos

September 18, 2010

Argentine Horacio Zeballos and doubles partner Eduardo Schwank couldn’t overcome the team of Michael Llodra and Arnaud Clement at the Davis Cup semifinals in Lyon. Their decisive rubber, which Llodra and Clement won 6-4, 7-5, 6-3, sends France to their first Fed Cup final since 2002. We didn’t include it in our Fila Davis Cup post, but Zeballos wore a country-appropriate white polo with blue and yellow trim. (More: Read up on the tie details here.)

Meanwhile, we caught a little bit of Zeballos’ shirtless practice time on the Sunday before the 2010 US Open. He lost in the first round to Igor Andreev.

Tattoo watch: Looks like he has the Eye of Horus on his right shoulder.

want: fuzzy juan monaco

September 14, 2010

If you can tell me where to find the rest of the pictures from this session with Juan Monaco, I have lots to trade. My firstborn, a kidney, skin grafts, hair follicles, an eye, a few fingers. Hit me up.
