mothers who play: bammer, davenport, clijsters?!

Laguna Beach denizen Lindsay Davenport is contemplating a return to pro tennis, being lured back into play by the prospect of playing in the Beijing Olympics and adding to the gold medal she won at the ’96 games in Atlanta.

Perhaps she’s also itching to play on the U.S. hardcourts which she has traditionally done well on. The reason doesn’t matter, really — we’re just excited to have her back!

Newlywed (and expecting) Kim Clijsters will follow in her footsteps, I hope. I’m sure Lindsay and Sybille Bammer will save the Belgian a seat in the SEWTA mommy table.

As a Kim Clijsters fan, I must say it is quite obvious that the chances of Kim returning is practically 0. You’re talking about someone who asked to be immediately taken off the rankings straight after retirement.

She will be too focused on her family (especially with a baby on the way) to come back

I’ve been a long time Lindsay fan and hope she does well on return. I look forward to her coming to Australia next year.

Davenport has confirmed she will play doubles at Pilot Pen, partnering Lisa Raymond. Doubles is a good way to get back in shape and keep playing tennis without the full-on schedule of a genuine singles comeback.

I like Davenport just fine, but I’d like her a LOT more if she realized she’s not an ape and decided to begin walking upright.

    Kim looks nice here
