The trophy gods worked hard to give us some good ones this week:
In the hotfest over at the Austrian Open in Kitzbuehel, Argentinian Juan Monaco (in adidas) got taken to three sets by Potito Starace (wearing Le Coq Sportif). Bonnie was right: Juan should have been in my top 5. Really, I’ve never noticed a six pack bursting out of a shirt like that…

In Umag, veteran Carlos Moya tells us not to write him off just yet with his 6-4, 6-2 win over Andrei Pavel. Gap-toothed or not, he’s still hot. And kudos to the tourney organizers for coming up with that offbeat blue trophy.
Anna Chakvetadze beat Sania Mirza 6-3, 6-2 at the Bank of the West Classic in Palo Alto but lost to her in the doubles match (Mirza won playing with Shahar Peer). For the first time, Anna caught her braided ponytail in her racket and was unable to play a ball. Funny. Trophy = yawn.
Flavio Saretta took advantage of his home court advantage and took the gold medal at the Pan-American Games. Chile’s Adrian Garcia took silver.
Wordsmith Dmitry Tursunov stopped Frank Dancevic‘s upset train with a straight set win a day after Dancevic upset Andy Roddick.

I vol’ed at the Indy tourney, and that was a remarkable final pairing after the Bloody Saturday for Americans Roddick, Blake, and Querrey.
