#5: USTA hosts a players’ party

August 25, 2007

Here are photos from last night’s U.S. Open Players’ Party.

Tommy Haas and the eccentric Nole Djokovic (perhaps he’s doing an impersonation of Hugh Hefner?).

Serena Williams, Andy Roddick in Lacoste (of course), and ANTM‘s Caridee Engilish.

Andy would have looked sooo good in something from the Fall/Winter 2007 collection. Can his stylist take some notes, please?

parties 3 and 4: land rover+masha, the boys cook

August 25, 2007

We already showed you the pics from the Land Rover-hosted auction attended by Maria Sharapova (and whose foundation received the proceeds from the event).

And some of the boys relieved pre-U.S. Open stress by playing with fire at the Dacor Taste of Tennis, which partners New York’s most prominent chefs with ATP players like Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, and an ultra-disinterested Lleyton Hewitt.

party #2: vogue hosts federer fete

August 25, 2007

Can I tell you how in love I am with New York magazine’s coverage of the U.S. Open thus far?

While Nole made buddies with a polo player, Roger Federer attended a party in his honor hosted by Vogue and Men’s Vogue editors-in-chief Anna Wintour and Jay Fielden. They threw the party at Wakiya, the chinese restaurant at the ultra-sexy Ian Schrager-designed Gramercy Park Hotel.

Roger was there with girlfriend Mirka, but he spent most of the night in the arms of Wintour, who introduced him to guests such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, and boys of Proenza Schouler (Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez).

Throughout the night, NY had a chance to ask some tennis-related questions:

R-Fed on his favorite designer: “I like Prada a lot. I haven’t gotten much into the American designers yet, but this gives me the perfect opportunity to meet them all and get inspired by them and hopefully grab some more of their clothes.”

Wintour on tennis: It’s the only game she plays, her play is “passable”, and she plays at “Midtown Tennis on Eighth Avenue and 27th Street at six o’clock in the morning”.

And Fielden on tennis’ popularity in the fashion world: “I’m so guilty of liking golf — it’s so unchic. Why do these tennis guys look so good and dress so well even when they’re playing? Golfers are so schlumpy and awful. I wish I knew.” Oh, snap! (We like what Fielden’s done with Men’s Vogue btw.)

audi+usb party: djokovic, isner, haas

August 25, 2007

The players are playing hard before they have to start working hard at the 2007 U.S. Open (which starts this Monday.)

Audi and USB threw a party to announce their partnership with the Best Buddies program on Thursday, Aug. 23.

(From left to right:) Novak Djokovic put on his party shirt and hung out with polo player (and Ralph Lauren model) Nacho Figueras, tennis darling John Isner smiled for the camera, and Tommy Haas wore black (he’s German, after all) and came with girlfriend Sarah Foster.
