not so fast: footage from inside the u.s. open locker rooms

September 6, 2007

TSF had to up our Paxil intake after we got word that media would have no access to the U.S. Open locker rooms this year.

Thankfully, some goofsters were cool enough to film Nole Djokovic hamming it up yet again, this time folding more impersonations to his repertoire.

His latest victims are: Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, Andy Roddick, Filippo Volandri, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, and Roger Federer.

Nole pulls up his sleeve to do Ramirez and pulls down his shorts to get an authentic Nadal clamdigger look (left, middle). He ended the joke with a great impersonation of Roger.

And our favorite Italian, Potito Starace, laughs and eggs on the Serb throughout the video.

i’m not one to stalk roger federer….

September 6, 2007

But if you are, take this tip from Hotel Chatter:

“For Four Seasons (hotel) employees this is quite a shock. We hear that Swiss tennis god Roger always stays at Four Seasons but this time people kept recommending The Carlyle (maybe Anna had a hand in this too?) So he switched his reservation and is staying on the same floor as the hotel’s general manager, James McBride, who has an apartment there. Now, Anna knows where to get an extra key.”

The hotel’s in the Upper East Side at 35 East 76th Street. Not sure what alias Roger (and girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec) registered under…

eleVen’s fourth look: puffed sleeves, in teal

venus williams - eleven outfit

Venus‘ looked good in her tough three-setter against Serbian Jelena Jankovic.

She wore a tennis outfit from EleVen (her Steve & Barry’s line) with pieces similar to her third round ensemble. (But instead of a white/periwinkle colorway, she went with white/teal.)

Venus completed the look with a white visor and a gold “Venus” necklace.

dispatches from the open: girls’ draw

September 6, 2007

The girls are heading into the quarters of the U.S. Open juniors tourney, and right now I would say Urszula Radwanska (that’s Agnieszka‘s little sis) is the favorite to win the tournament. She dispatched of her last opponent 6-0 6-3, you almost never see a 6-0 opening set, so she’s definately looking fantastic.

American CoCo Vandeweghe has also been playing fantastic tennis, however she will most likely have to beat both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds to win the tournament.

Oh, BTW Slovakian Kristina Kucova has been playing some insane tennis.

TSF contributor JNP is in New York reporting from the U.S. Open trenches. He’s been checking in with us everyday. Read his previous posts here.

another look: agnes szavay + marta makany

The dream U.S. Open run of Agnes Szavay ended with her loss to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarters.

Above’s another look at her outfit designed by Hungarian designer Marta Makany. (See Agnes’ other outfits and Makany’s other designs.)

Even Tennis World’s Peter Bodo was impressed that she hasn’t chosen to wear off-the-rack Nike or adidas.

We love the braids, the halter, and the pleats!

sightings from the stands: venus d. jelena

Venus Williams, in another new EleVen outfit, upset third seed Reebok-clad Jelena Jankovic 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) in last night’s quartefinals at the U.S. Open.

sightings from the stands: r-fed d. roddick

September 6, 2007

Two things: first, I want World News Now‘s Ryan Owens to whisper frivolous news stories in my ear (perhaps it’s just my insomnia talking?) Second, I miss Matt Savoie. Now onto the fun stuff…

I was following the tight three sets Roger Federer played against Roddick at last night’s U.S. Open quartefinals. Up until the third set, Roger, who won the first two sets in tiebreaks, was the only one who faced a break point. Unfortunately for the Texan, Federer ran away with the third set, breaking Andy twice to win 6-2.

The black-shirt affair brought out the big-hitters:

wintour and de la Renta - roger federer

What R-Fed tennis U.S. Open tennis match would be complete without the president of his fan club, Anna Wintour? To her left is the fabulously tortoise-shelled Oscar de la Renta.

Apparently, this fashion week’s most sought-after photo opp is Roger and Anna in the tents of Bryant Park (or wherever designers are showing). The papparazi are ready!
