in case ya missed it: jelena jankovic inspired a fashion line

Had a great, sunny L.A. weekend. It was 80 degrees but you could see the snow-capped mountains in the distance. I grabbed some dim sum in Chinatown and ran into the tail end of a Lunar New Year festival (Happy Year of the Rat, everyone!). I also went to a dog’s birthday party (I’ve now been to two), and checked out Pinche Tacos on Sunset (thumbs up).

And Ryan Owens, thanks for keeping me company at 3 a.m.

I was reading this article in CSM and it mentioned Jelena Jankovic‘s fashion line, which I knew nothing about.

Of course my eyes widened and my fingers immediately started Googling away. Turns out that Mona, a fashion manufacturer in Serbia, created the JJ Collection based on Jelena’s aesthetic (i.e., she wasn’t directly involved with design). Word on the street is that someone caught a glimpse of her off-court doodling, which led to the line. (Mona’s Kristina Gajic designed the clothes, and Ana Lekovic was in charge of handbags.)

Browse: The collection made its debut on July 14, 2007 (smack dab in the middle of Jelena’s successful grasscourt season). It played a lot with black — in leather and other softer fabrics — and spruced it up with bright pastels. There were decent eveningwear (including a beautiful pleated gown), some dominatrix hooker looks, and some junior wear.

What do you think of the line? Tell us!

Doing good: In early December last year, Mona and Jankovic partnered for a “UNICEF for Serbia” fundraiser which raised 144,000 dinars (that’s approximately 25,200 USD).
