another look at NOBRAND

March 18, 2008

nobrand argentina

We check back in with Nobrand, a project of design studio ImagenHB which promotes traditional Argentinian icons along with minimalist design.

Since our last post, they’ve added food (bife, asada, empanadas) and animals (nandu, hornero) to their portfolio of logos. All the images are printed on tees, tanks, hats, and aprons.

They’ve also dabbled in some furniture (armchair shaped like a T-bone!) and kitchenware (mate). And while it’s not available for download, they’ve also displayed a font they designed.

Must-browse: Check out the company’s catalog/lookbook on their website. You’ll also see more pictures from their sport collection (worn by Sergio Roitman).

roger federer’s on-court attire + another new bag

March 18, 2008

Here are pics from match I ended on Sunday, March 16, between Roger Federer and Guillermo Garcia Lopez. This was my first time seeing Roger play. Gigi probably didn’t push him to his best tennis, but the Spaniard put up a good fight.

Roger Federer - Indian Wells

Cute: A new grey track jacket from Nike.

Roger Federer - Indian Wells

He sticks with the Aussie Open blue polo and trades in for white shorts. This will transition into the white shorts he’ll be wearing next week in Miami.

Another duffel: I didn’t have my binoculars with me, so I couldn’t figure out the specifics of that red and grey duffel he had with him (the one near his right foot). If anyone has info, e-mail me.

These guys in the next section over from me were fussing over their banner all throughout the match.

fila spring ’08: women’s collection

March 18, 2008

Svetlana Kuznetsova - Indian Wells 2008

The navy blue and purple of this spring’s Heritage collection from Fila looked good on Svetlana Kuznetsova. She beat Makarova and Cibulkova and next faces Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round. (Quick poll: Is there anyone out there banking on Sveta — the third seed — to take this title?)

FYI: Our other picks are the Heritage dress and jacket, $53.99 each. The men have grey in their colorway instead of purple.

Karin Knapp - Indian Wells 2008

Meanwhile, Karin Knapp brought out old school pieces from the Fall 2007 Collezione and this great slimming dress (pictured above). Does anyone know what collection the latter is from?

Buy: Fila Heritage Tank, $34.99; skort, $36.99; dress and jacket, both $53.99.

rafa nadal is eco-friendly

Rafael Nadal - Indian Wells 2008

Some players (like Serena) have used index cards to keep themselves in check during matches. At Indian Wells, Rafa Nadal chooses a greener route. From Britton Gerrard‘s Diary of a Ballkid:

“[He] had three words written in Spanish on his hand and I was trying to figure out what it was the entire match. I kept trying to get a good view during the changeovers but I couldn’t read it. Finally, in the tunnel, after the match Nadal told us that it meant ‘concentrate’ in English.”

Does he still have his eyes on the prize? We’ll find out soon enough.

k-swiss: bondarenkos at indian wells + kournikova at the pop-up store party

March 18, 2008

The Bondarenko sisters — that’s Alona (the blond) and Katerina (the brunette) — have taken the momentum from their 2008 Australian Open doubles title to make good runs at the Pacific Life Open.

Alona and Katerina Bondarenko - Indian Wells 2008

Alona, who’s featured on the K-Swiss website along with fellow tennis players Tommy Haas, Michaella Krajicek, Black/Huber, and Mardy Fish, wore the Empire Seam Top during her three-set loss to Maria Sharapova in the fourth round.

Katerina lost early in singles and wore this dress with an asymmetrical racerback (how very Ukranian of her).

The sisters wore the black version during their doubles win over Svetlana Kuznetsova and Amelie Mauresmo. The duo will face Vesnina and Safina in the quarters.

Buy: Empire Seam Top, purple w/ gold hardware, $48; Racerback Dress, black and white, $90.

Browse: Look through the rest of this season’s collection.

Jackie Warner - Anna Kournikova - K-Swiss pop-up store party

Party pics: The K-Swiss pop-up store had its opening party on Thursday, March 13. The celebs on hand: Anna Kournikova, Workout‘s Jackie Warner, and Fred Durst. More photos here.

practice makes perfect: roger federer’s t-shirts

Roger Federer - practice - Indian Wells 2008

R-Fed and his flock of seagulls had plenty of face time on the practice courts at Indian Wells this past week. With each session came a new shirt, of course. Dmitry: if you’re still having problems with losing your clothes in Miami, give this guy a call, eh?

Count ’em: See the five shirts (and counting) after the cut…
