on sharapova’s french open dress: the speculation continues…

March 24, 2008

One more to throw into the fray for Maria Sharapova‘s possible French Open kit. Rich at Down the Line! scoured the Nike site and came up with this beauty.

While the dress has no athlete linked to its description, this dark blue number is definitely a candidate for Masha’s outfit (unlike the Paris Tank and Skirt, which were linked to Masha). Judging by the bow on the bust, we know it’s definitely not Serena‘s. And Maria has gone both light (pink tutu, 2006) and dark (last year’s dark blue layers) in French Opens past, so who knows which way she’ll go this year?

Buy: Nike Paris Tennis Dress, Dark Obsidian/Chalk, $100. By the way, the Doubles Dress, in a Chalk/Dark Obsidian colorway, is also a fave of mine. It has a thin belt and a ruffled hem. $75.

Andy Roddick - Lacoste - Spring/Summer 2008

Where’s the bedhead? We didn’t think it was possible, but Andy Roddick can actually clean up (pretty well, even) wearing clothes from his sponsor, Lacoste. These classic whites are from the label’s spring/summer collection. We were in love with the white jacket back when creative designer Christopher Lemaire presented the goods back in September, and our feelings haven’t changed. Big logos are on their way out, but I’m not above squeezing one more summer out of it. (Who’s with me?)

Refresher: If you want to take a gander at the collection, click here. If you’re ready to buy, click here.

trophy watch: one of the year’s best trophies gets doled out yet again

Ana Ivanovic - Indian Wells 2008Ana Ivanovic - Indian Wells 2008

Ana Ivanovic made quick work of Svetlana Kuznetsova in their final match at Indian Wells. (The scoreline: 6-4, 6-3.) Ana took home the $332,000 purse, a bracelet from Jeffrey Scott Fine Magnetics, and that cute humpback whale trophy. Kuznetsova, meanwhile, took home $163,000.

Novak Djokovic - Indian Wells 2008Novak Djokovic - Indian Wells 2008

Novak Djokovic proved that he’s currently the best men’s tennis player in the world by taking his first Indian Wells title. He beat the en fuego Mardy Fish who, before Sunday, had beaten Roger Federer, David Nalbandian, Lleyton Hewitt, and Nikolay Davydenko in this tournament.

There were a few close calls (and Nole started to self-destruct), but the Serb pulled it together in the end for a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win. Props to Mardy for a good two weeks. I can live without his basketball shorts, though. Also: cover your ankles, and stop shaving your legs!

Nole took home a $555,000 paycheck while Mardy raked in $277,500.

Their humps: “The Pacific Promise” Perpetual Trophy is 30 inches tall. It’s a replica of an 18-foot sculpture of a mother humpback whale and her calf. The original resides in Pacific Life’s main office in Newport Beach, Calif. The sculpture was created by artist Randy Puckett, who’s known for his whale work.

sightings: anna kournikova at the sunrise tourney

March 24, 2008

Anna Kournikova - BMW Tennis Championships 2008

Anna Kournikova, spotted on the grounds of the BMW Tennis Championships in Sunrise, Fla.

Speaking of Anna, I think the new K-Swiss casual line — the same ones being sold at the pop-up store in Santa Monica — is also available at CO-OP (The Grove). So those who fear the water or anything west of La Cienega can still look fabulous. (I’ve been trying to find pictures of the clothing online (to no avail). I’m going to visit the store soon and let you know if I find anything to upload.)

>Maria Sharapova - Tag Heuer shoot

TSF ran across these stills from an upcoming Tag Heuer ad campaign with Maria Sharapova. Not sure when the photos were taken, but you can bet that they were shot in the last three months (when Masha adopted bangs).
