Serena Williams began her title defense at the Sony Ericsson Open with an easy 6-1, 6-2 win over Edina Gallovits in the second round.
Serena continues the conservative and feminine look that Maria Sharapova started with her “librarian” from YEC 2007. The solid pastel separates are accented with thin contrasting colors at the hems, collars, and sleeves.

At least she’ll probably not rip off the ribbon… 😉
It’s nice. Work the librarian look, Serena!

everything she has worn this year so far has looked super cool

Excellent choice, AT LAST! She looks as beautiful on court as she does off of the court!

She looks elegant and sophisticated, which is a nice change up. I just hope she doesn’t make a habit of it. Serena’s always been the Cher of the tennis world, and I’m waiting for her to rock something like her “Rebel” look again. The “Gladiator” look, not so much.

I like the outfit too – and I like how her hair is styled as well. She has a 50s Dior quality to her look. Nice!

I think Serena’s choices this year have been great. I do think she should keep this kind of style for tournaments and have her out-there styles for the Grand Slams. I still love the Asian styled dress she wore in the past US Open.

I am impressed, she looks GREAT, lilac against her dark skin is a nice combo….I havent seen venus yet…I hope its something different from her EleVen line…It seems like she’s been wearing the same outifits since last year!!!

i really like this a lot (who is that other “b” it’s not me and i’ve been commenting here a while)
don’t care for the ribbon but otherwise it’s a great outfit….. not too much detailing…..
would have been nice to see it in other colours e.g. jewel tones
from what i can see i do like the hair also
this outfit is SO MUCH more figure flattering than the tunic & tights, which did nothing for her renewed physique
also agree with the other posters in wanting her to come up with more “daring” outfits for the grand slams etc…. i wonder if it’s serena wanting to be less experimental or nike deciding to put all their effort into sharapova? some of her best outfits (and correspondingly best play) debuted when she was with puma and i wonder how she would fare with a smaller company
i really liked the asian themed usopen 06…. also the 07 australian open green dress that she won in – was so figure flattering
would have been interesting to see her in a little fitted red dress like the one vaidisova wore
i would like to see venus in more outfits although she did bring out some new things this year….. i’d like to see her in a new dress – she would wear dresses a lot w- reebok
much prefer this blouse to maria’s librarian blouse…. wonder how maria would look in this outfit – probably very nice…. although this top seems to favour a generous bustline
is it possible that black dress french open dress is serena’s?

I have to admite that I don’t like this outfit too much but I think if she got rid of the belt and the bow it would be much better. I enjoyed Maria’s librarian/secretary look but it looked really uncomfortable to play in even though she played well in it. This Serena outfit looks much more court friendly. I think it’s much better than that denim skirt from a few US Open’s ago and much better than the long 80’s-esque bike shorts. Her hair does look fantastic much better than Venus’ of late.

After posting I finally realised why the skirt looked familiar – it’s the skirt of the white version of the black french open dress that everyone was admiring
called the “doubles dress”
here it is

note the skirt is *exactly* the same….. except the colour of the hem……
would have liked to see this skirt entirely in navy with serena’s top
interestingly, i think a fitted top cut like the dress would have suited her better

here it is
there WAS a black skirt for serena to wear (and other tops)

Although, I respect her new conservative look — it’s cute!! — I must confess to a nostalgia for the jean-skirt look. I love it when ‘Rena goes bold.

ReRe looks great here. And “generous bustline” is an understatement, ha!

I love Serena’s new outfit. I think its the best. Never did like the cat suit or anything outlandish. I really like outfit that are simple, hence why I don’t like the bubble thing Addidas has got going on.
The lilac colour is absolutely gorgeous. Is she wearing this in Europe, I hope she does.
