Trophy Watch: Nadal’s labor in Spain

Rafael Nadal pushed and pushed — and out came his second title in 2008.

(Jay kay! That’s actually a picture of him being tossed into a pool after his win. You can thank the ATP for that one.)

The World No. 2 defeated David Ferrer 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 in the finals of the Open Sabadell Atlantico. He has won both clay tournaments he’s entered so far (and has a 10-0 record on the surface).

In doubles, the Bryan Brothers defeated Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.

Fernando Gonzalez stepped up after defending champion Philipp Kohlschreiber withdrew from the BMW Open in Munich. Newbie Simone Bolelli — the newest addition to our Tattoo blotter — put up a fight during the first two tiebreakers (he took the first) before falling 6-3 in the third.

The ladies played in Prague, with Vera Zvonareva beating Victoria Azarenka 7-6, 6-2 at the ECM Prague Open.
