fed cup fashions

Fed Cup ties were contested last weekend. Here’s a photo review…

Congrats to the American Fed Cup team of Jill Craybas, Melanie Oudin, Julie Ditty, and Liezel Huber for downing Argentina 3-2 (and without the help of their much-higher-ranked compatriots).

In Moscow, a full complement of Russian stars showed up to crush the Chinese contingent 5-0; coach Shamil Tarpischev must be so proud!

Anna Chakvetadze beat Yan Zi while wearing a black bejeweled hairband.

Svetlana Kuznetsova also beat Yan Zi. We loved Sveta’s black flowy top that fell nicely on her bosom.

And we can only hope that this tiger pendant is a clue about what she’ll get for her next tattoo!

Elena Dementieva teamed with Sveta to win the doubles point. She dressed in her spring Yonex dress, in country colors.

In Orleans, France, the Italian team of Flavia Pennetta, Sara Errani, and Roberta Vinci won the heated tie 5-0. Ms. Pennetta’s prim and proper Sergio Tacchini outfit was no match for her finger-raising ways. Meanwhile, Amelie Mauresmo wore red Reebok, and Alize Cornet matched her light blue polo with a white pleated skirt (both from Lacoste).

The Czech team, including Lucie Safarova and Iveta Benesova, used their homecourt advantage to rout the Spanish team 4-1. The Nike kits featured a flag (on Lucie) and the crest (on Iveta).

And in nearby Bratislava, the Slovakian team took out Belgium 4-1, with Dani Hantuchova winning her only singles rubber (over Yanina Wickmayer) wearing Nike.

Too bad anchor Patty Schnyder couldn’t pull up Time Bacsinszky by her hoop earrings; the Swiss team lost to Germany 2-3, in Zurich.

Other results: Serbia won over Japan, Ukraine won over Israel 3-2.

Actually, Amelie was also in a light blue and white Reebok top (sleeveless, of course). The whole French team was actually pretty well-matched – better than the Italians, at any rate…

  2. Nick McCarvel Says:

That is a ROUGH picture of Baczinszky. Roooooooough.

  3. Sasha Says:

It really is! And I’m quite a fan of Bacsinszky!
