flashback: nads, never again.

September 20, 2010

Not that we really wanted to go back to that bad place, but out of obligation to all that is right and just in this world, we figured that this 2010 US Open outfit, brought to you by Nadia Petrova and Ellesse, deserved its own blog post. Just so we never forget.

And not that we expected anything less from Ellesse as they continue to dress Nads in the wackiest s*&$ out there, but this one, so far, takes the cake. (Yep, the one-upped themselves after this — Nads’ dress from New Haven!)

And German Andrea Petkovic was clearly moved by all of it, putting the 17th seed Petrova out of her misery (Kudryavtsevastyle) by winning the third set in a tiebreak. Petkovic made it all the way to the round of 16 (with the help of a walkover from Peng Shuai) before falling to eventual finalist Vera Zvonareva.

flashback: wilson’s simple, solid dress for the open

September 20, 2010

As we mentioned while roaming the grounds of the 2010 US Open, the normally blah Wilson surprised us with a solid black and pink dress (with a wrap skirt) to put on Anne Keothavong and Mandy Minella. Note the ruching on the bust and the pleats on the back of the skirt.

Minella, who came through from qualifying, made it all the way to the third round before falling to Venus Williams. The lady from Luxembourg paired her dress with some purple hot pants (and pearl studs). Meanwhile, Keothavong lost her first round match against Taiwan’s Yung-Jan Chan.

This whole line created for the 2010 US Open is actually good all-around. Even the branding’s novel, with very NY-centric names like the “#7 Train tank” and the “7th Ave. top” for these black and pink (“berry”) pieces. Lots of gathering and ruching detail. Check out the links below.

Buy: Wilson Tea Lawn Tennis Dress, black/berry, $52.99; Fall 7th Ave. 3/4 Pant, $39.99; Garden V-Neck Top, $36.99; 7th Ave. Long-Sleeve Top, $39.99; #7 Train Tank, $36.99; all at TW.

nyfw s/s ’11: lemaire’s last for lacoste

September 20, 2010

Christophe Lemaire‘s final collection for Lacoste showed in New York last week, a mix of the sportswear we’ve come to enjoy from the brand’s archives — Lemaire’s take, of course — but with a little more infusion of the Frenchman’s own eastern aesthetic. The show started with whites and blacks in concentric squares and other geometric patterns. He then mixed it up with oranges and browns, and then switched to greys to end the presentation.

As we’d mentioned before, Lemaire is taking over at Hermes; his first show for that label will be in March 2011.

robredo in erke (two more)

September 20, 2010

Thanks to reader Tahoe Editor for pointing out that Tommy Robredo did whip out two more Erke shirts at the 2010 US Open: a blue polo with white dots along the chest, and a black version of the white/green polo he wore in the first round.
