spring in the 2010 step of christophe lemaire’s lacoste

February 16, 2010

Lacoste was one of the first to show its Fall 2010 RTW goods in New York. The collection seemed to have a little more creative director Christophe Lemaire‘s personal touch, with the men and women opening the show down the bright yellow runway in the loose garments we’ve come to see from his eponymous non-Lacoste work.

Still, as the pieces switched palettes from oatmeal to the brand’s signature bright colors, we were reminded that Lemaire can remain true to the company’s aesthetic.

Lemons: Since their chief croc, Andy Roddick, is off playing for a title in Memphis (at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships), Lacoste thought long and hard about which athlete to invite to the show. The answer: Canuck Aleksandra Wozniak. Hunh? Why are all the Wozes getting all the love?

almost, but not quite: caroline wozniacki

October 16, 2009

We’re trying to figure out what’s off with Caro‘s look. Is it the medusa hair? The black leather watch against the pale grey/purple adidas by Stella McCartney dress?

Bee tee dubs: (We’ve been drooling over watches lately, can you tell?) That honkin’ CW8 watch from Rosendahl was made with Caro in mind. The number 8 — her lucky number — is a big part of the watch dial’s design. Why that number? Think Beijing: “A dream of mine is also bound up in the 8th month of 2008 (and no doubt for lots of other sports people, too – need I say more?). Dreams and goals are important to me. I wish you every success and happiness with yours,” she says in a company brochure.

Draw: At this week’s HP Japan Women’s Open, Caroline defeated fellow Woz Aleksandra Wozniak 6-2, 6-7 (1), 6-2 (this, after she let Wozniak through to the quarters of the Toray Pan Pacific Open because of a viral illness). She faces Sam Stosur in the semis. Draw here.

sweet but short: caro’s second outing with stella

September 29, 2009

Canuck Aleksandra Wozniak‘s been on a mini-roll this week at the Toray Pan Pacific Open, first dispatching Korea Open winner Kimiko Date Krumm in three sets before getting to the quarters after Caroline Wozniacki retired in round two due to a viral infection.

But it was enough time for Caro to show off her second outfit from the adidas by Stella McCartney line, the same pieces she debuted at the 2009 U.S. Open, but this time in onyx (grey).

The two-tiered performance skirt is sold out (le sigh!), but the hyper-stitched, chunky-zippered jacket is still available via TW for $175. See another view of the jacket here.

We wish Caro the best and hope she makes a full recovery.

wozniak outmatched by serena, in play and style

June 1, 2009

Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak was no match for Serena Williams — both in game and in style — during a fourth-round encounter at the 2009 French Open.

Serena easily won 6-1, 6-2. And in the accessories department, Wozniak’s Chanel logo studs were no match for the jewelry worn by the No. 2 seed.

This was less controversial match for Serena, who called out her previous opponent, Maria Martinez Sanchez, as a cheat. Serena alleges that Martinez Sanchez got hit by a ball before it sailed out, which should’ve given the point to Serena. Instead, the ump awarded the point to Martinez Sanchez. Serena, who won anyway, made a stink about it in her presser. We hope Serena was right, otherwise all the fracas was just a big whiny waste of time.

Up next for Serena is Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat Agnieszka Radwanska.
