nyfw s/s ’11: what we’ve liked so far

September 16, 2010

Last day of Spring/Summer 2011 NY Fashion Week is today. Aside from our separate post on Rodarte and one coming up on Lacoste (Lemaire‘s last!), here’s a list of which collections we’ve eyed so far: (more…)

it’s fashion week, after all

September 8, 2008

Serena Williams knows how to glam up a trophy photo opp (uhh, remember Justine?). And especially since it’s Fashion Week, she went all out, opting for a bold, red Diane von Furstenburg dress as she mingled with the brass in Times Square.

The new world. No. 1 rounded out her look with some earrings from Henri Bendel and the latest Tribute peep-toe platform pumps by YSL.

Buy: Tribute Pump, $660,; get a similar DvF dress, the Duke Dress, $345.

party #2: vogue hosts federer fete

August 25, 2007

Can I tell you how in love I am with New York magazine’s coverage of the U.S. Open thus far?

While Nole made buddies with a polo player, Roger Federer attended a party in his honor hosted by Vogue and Men’s Vogue editors-in-chief Anna Wintour and Jay Fielden. They threw the party at Wakiya, the chinese restaurant at the ultra-sexy Ian Schrager-designed Gramercy Park Hotel.

Roger was there with girlfriend Mirka, but he spent most of the night in the arms of Wintour, who introduced him to guests such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, and boys of Proenza Schouler (Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez).

Throughout the night, NY had a chance to ask some tennis-related questions:

R-Fed on his favorite designer: “I like Prada a lot. I haven’t gotten much into the American designers yet, but this gives me the perfect opportunity to meet them all and get inspired by them and hopefully grab some more of their clothes.”

Wintour on tennis: It’s the only game she plays, her play is “passable”, and she plays at “Midtown Tennis on Eighth Avenue and 27th Street at six o’clock in the morning”.

And Fielden on tennis’ popularity in the fashion world: “I’m so guilty of liking golf — it’s so unchic. Why do these tennis guys look so good and dress so well even when they’re playing? Golfers are so schlumpy and awful. I wish I knew.” Oh, snap! (We like what Fielden’s done with Men’s Vogue btw.)

Night Tennis Miami update

March 16, 2007

I may have spoken too soon. It turns out that there might be some merit to this whole Night Tennis Miami business. Tournament organizers have scheduled five fashion shows with Fila, Roberto Cavalli, Diane von Furstenberg, Etro, and Village of Merrick Park (a local mall). Cavalli, DVF, and Etro will all take from previous collections (click on the thumbnails to see them). Take a looksies:

Roberto Cavalli: “…inspired by the colors of Mexico and the paintings of Frida Kahlo.”

Diane von Furstenberg: “(Her collection) All About Eve celebrates the birth of femininity with bold, brave colors and loose silhouettes.”
