romain jouan

May 25, 2009

Where do I sign up?

Frenchman Romain Jouan had the unfortunate privilege of drawing Andy Roddick in the first round of the French. The American hadn’t gotten past the first round of the tourney since ’05, but this was Jouan’s third ATP match ever (and his Slam debut). Roddick won 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

venus williams: look at the fine print

May 22, 2009

Two snaps to Venus Williams and her EleVen line for going where no other player has gone before in recent years — at least not successfully. She made good on what she told TSF back in February, bringing out a print in purples, teals, and fuschias for a spring-appropriate tennis dress. I don’t know about you, but it’s making me crave Hypercolor!

Her year so far: Venus has two titles under her belt (Mexican Open, Dubai) and made it to the semis of Miami (losing to sister Serena) and Roma (losing to Safina). On the flip side, she’s also had disappointing early-round losses to Carla Suarez Navarro (Australian Open) and Alisa Kleybanova (Madrid). All that being said, she is ranked third in the world and is also seeded third for next week’s French Open.

In the details: Once you get over the pyschedelic effects, look for the dress’s tiered skirt whose staggered layers don’t quite wrap around the entire waist; the drawstring collar; and the teals and purples of her earrings and undies. See everything after the cut…

lemar dauley x dc, part trois: clay vs. grass

May 20, 2009

Grass vs. clay… red vs. green… Rafa vs… Rafa?

After dabbling with nautical themes for their last collab, Lemar and Dauley and DC Shoes turn to tennis for their current release, the Xander.

Available in honeydew (grass) and coral (clay) colorways, the high-top shoes have tennis DNA all over: the mesh on the side panels and the tongue of the shoe look like waffle pattern of strings on the racquet face, while DC’s signature houndstooth print appears as a “stencil” on the tongue. The shoe’s translucent sole mimics the nylon material used to make the strings themselves, and the use of leather around the edges — as well as under the sole — represent the racquet grip. And to round it all out, the insoles have an abstract graphic print of a court surface.

What do you think of the shoes? Tell us!

This isn’t the first time L&D’s geeked out on us. Remember their homage to Andre Agassi for their Holiday 2007 collection?

Buy: Call up the DC Soho and Melrose brick-and-mortar shops to get more info.

sightings in the stands: andy and kim

May 20, 2009

Aww — don’t they look adorable? That’s Andy Murray and gf Kim Sears soaking last week’s Wimbledon Centre Court Celebration, aka the exo which featured husband-and-wife team Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi along with Tim Henman and Kim Clijsters.

Sears, in this pic, reminds me of Jennifer Aniston…
