sightings in the stands: jelena ristic

September 1, 2011

Ladies, watch your back: The world’s current No. 1 TWAG, Jelena Ristic, is doing her part to make bf Novak Djokovic — or at least his player’s box — look great during his matches. Loving the multi-charmed necklace!

And on the court… Djokovic easily dispatched Argentine Carlos Berlocq 6-0, 6-0, 6-2 in his second-round match tonight. His next opponent, sigh, is Kolya. See how the men’s draw is stacking up.

sightings in the stands: pam and sam

August 6, 2011

Sam and Pam: Do you really need us to explain this awesomeness? Pam Shriver sat down with Sam Querrey on Sunday afternoon at the Farmers Classic in LA for a little chatski on air for the ESPN broadcast. We were pretty shocked how long the two sat there chit-chatting (perhaps almost a half hour?), though we couldn’t ear out anything they were actually saying. Querrey was the two-time defending champ at UCLA, but is out indefinitely with an elbow injury. Below: Pam shows off her pearls before heading back courtside.

sightings in the stands: who needs samurai when you’ve got dudies?

July 28, 2010

Last night’s eye-candy-filled doubles match between Tipsarevic/Lopez and Blake/Querrey (will I get a cavity in my cornea??) had no visible Sam-urai contingent, possibly contributing to the Americans’ 6-3, 6-3 loss in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Dudi Sela, now clad in Lacoste, took out shotmaker Xavier Malisse 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in their first round singles match. He’ll next face the fourth-seeded Lopez.

Draw: See who’s left playing singles and doubles at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles.

sightings in the stands… and on the sidelines

January 29, 2010

I’ve been with Marin” would’ve been a more interesting sign, no?

These fans showed up to cheer for the Croat Marin Cilic‘s first appearance at a major semi. Too bad he ran right into fifth seed Andy Murray‘s freight train, which caused a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 scoreline. The Scot’s in the final against Roger Federer, who beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets. Does anyone else think that this is Roger’s year to pick up all four major titles?

Meanwhile, an uber-excited Croatian fan (wearing his best Bob’s Big Boy) walk onto the court as the match ended, getting a chance to shake hands with Marin near the chair umpire. Can we make an example of one of these guys? Make them be a ballboy for an entire two hour match in the hot Australian sun? Have them be in charge of Rafael Nadal‘s sweat? Get their head dunked in cold water every time we “see” Venus Williams “flashing us”? Respect the access we get, people. We got off easy after Monica. Let’s keep it that way.

sightings in the stands: prince william

January 21, 2010

Most folks know that we’re with Team Ginger, but we have to give a little love to Prince William for doing his part to promote the sport.

The British royal made an appearance at Melbourne Park yesterday, watching second-round matches by Roger Federer (d. Victor Hanescu) and Casey Dellacqua (d. Karolina Sprem).

Here’s hoping that someone from the Obama camp will make it out to Flushing Meadows this fall. (It probably won’t be the President Obama, though. We can’t have him supporting tennis… it’ll be interpreted as “un-American”!)

A fan at the Kunitsyn/Roddick second-round match. Roddick took it 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. He next faces 26th seed Jurgen Melzer, who beat Beni Becker in three sets (two tiebreaks).

Now that JM Del Potro has been ousted by perennial grass threat Lleyton Hewitt (yay! more fun pics of Bec Cartwright!), this is looking like the Wimbledon quarterfinal clash o’ the year.

sightings in the stands: beck d. lopez

June 22, 2009

In case folks couldn’t get enough action during Karol Beck‘s 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 upset of Feliciano Lopez at the first round of the 2009 Wimbledon, they needed only to turn to their fellow fans.

You better watch out, Australian Matador — this woman is after your title of Best. Costume. Ever.

sightings in the stands: andy and kim

May 20, 2009

Aww — don’t they look adorable? That’s Andy Murray and gf Kim Sears soaking last week’s Wimbledon Centre Court Celebration, aka the exo which featured husband-and-wife team Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi along with Tim Henman and Kim Clijsters.

Sears, in this pic, reminds me of Jennifer Aniston…
