Serbians Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic might have the winter blues, but they’re not sad about how their 2007s are ending.
Ana is ranked No. 4 in the world after a year that saw her win three titles (Berlin, Los Angeles, and Luxembourg) plus an appearance in the French Open finals. She faces Justine Henin in the semis of this week’s SEWTA Tour Championships in Spain after hard-fought wins over Hantuchova (with a second-set tiebreak) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (7-5 in the third).
We haven’t seen shades this intense since spring! Ivanovic rounds out this year’s fashion show with a solid cyan Edge dress from adidas. (Her earlier choices include a white YOC dress for Wimbledon and the purple YOC tank.)
While her Madrid outfit is blue overkill, you can see from this white/cyan version (above, left) that the dress’ construction is very intricate, with lots of panels sewn together, ruching at seams on the bust, and a gathered hem on the skirt.
FYI: This Edge line should drop in stores by Thanksgiving. Judging from the timing of the release, this will likely be here Aussie Open dress. (Man, are we talking about 2008 already?!)
Buy: The YOC dress, $65, adidas.com; YOC tank, $31.99, TW.
Meanwhile, World No. 3 Jelena got schooled by Henin 2-6, 2-6 and took a set off Anna Chakvetadze but went down 3-6 in the third. She’ll end her year on a high note, though: 4 out of 5 career titles were racked up in 2007 — Auckland, Charleston, Rome, and Birmingham — plus a few other finals appearances.)
She wore Reebok separates in “Island Waters” blue and is also writing the last SEWTA player blog of the season.
